Zart will facilitate the staff to rethink and revamp the school’s displays. The consultant will suggest possibilities and introduce material, techniques and skills required to create amazing displays. Time poor teachers will be shown some tricks that will help them create interesting displays in a jiffy. Teachers will then work in groups to create a new display to welcome students, parents and community to the school. Teachers will be encouraged to consider and create displays that focus on numeracy, literacy, school values or prepare a background ready to display student’s work.

This workshop will provide teachers with practical ideas to help raise the standard of student’s presented work. The concept of making beautiful Artist Books to record the times tables, to take spelling words home, to support students with story writing and the many other possibilities will be explored. Teacher will be given the opportunity to make many different “Artist Books” during this workshop to keep as a sample and to inspire their students throughout the year. Artist Books are cheap and quick to make, students will love to work with them. The presentation of “the project” will also be explored. Staff will be given direction to experiment with art materials and different techniques that will revamp the printed pictures and text glued onto poster paper presentation. The student’s learning will be screaming from the walls when they are introduced to new ideas and materials.

Australian Art Works will be presented to help students develop thinking disposition that support thoughtful learning. During this workshop the Zart consultant will structure questions that will encourage students to think deeper, to discuss and debate, to wonder and to create. The use of graphic organisers will be used to record and assess student’s thinking. The link to Australian History will be made and the potential of using Art works to engage students learning and understanding of History will be explored. The staff will then be challenged to think at Bloom’s Highest Level and to put on Be Bono’s Green Hat to create an art work using Zart’s wonderful art materials.

Through hands-on art activities this workshop develops team work and raises staff morale. Having teachers working in groups to create artwork collaboratively provides many opportunities for developing effective teams. Discover what is required for a group to work effectively together and develop an understanding of the different personalities that make the team. It’s also a double whammy because the teachers will explore and experiment with techniques and skills in art making that will give them the confidence to pass them on to their own students. At the end of the workshop a brilliant art work will stand or hang as a model to staff and students that teams that work well together are successful.
