Description

Cathy Price has recently left full time teaching. After many years of successful secondary teaching she has continued as an art consultant, giving workshops to primary and secondary teachers. She has also been an art education volunteer in galleries and has worked in primary art classrooms on a regular basis.
One of the focuses of Cathy’s teaching has been the incorporation of higher order thinking in the art classroom. Good thinking leads to a deeper understanding within and across disciplines. It is teachable and learnable and art teachers, like all other educators, should incorporate higher order thinking in their curriculum. In this workshop examples of higher order thinking in the art classroom will be demonstrated through examples of drawing, painting and art appreciation in Art levels 4 and 5. Teachers will be shown how to transform a current unit of work into one that incorporates higher order thinking. Rubrics models will be shown as examples of assessment of a wide variety of work.
Participants will leave the workshop with a variety of practical and theoretical ideas with a focus on thinking. With this information teachers will be able to teach thinking skills in their art classroom.
