Description

Developing Art Appreciation
Letters are basically pictorial images symbolizing sounds and speech. They are abstract shapes, which have meaning.
However, contemplated entirely as artistic creations in their own right, letters and words present a convenient springboard for the exploration and production of exciting visual artworks using a range of art elements and principles and a range of art skills, techniques and media. Letters also provide meaningful and appealing opportunities to integrate Art and English.
Drawing on the alphabet and print that surrounds us everywhere every day, artworks of significant past and present artists and relevant picture storybooks, this workshop will provide both primary classroom teachers of all levels and art specialists with practical examples of ways to:
Explore the design qualities and creative potential contained within letters and words using a range of skills and media.
Integrate the Arts and English
Develop students’ ability to describe, discuss and respond to artworks using arts language. Address VELS Arts standards, dimensions and progression points.
