Description

Music and the Visual Arts have many things in common. Although the meanings vary for each art form, the art elements and principles used to describe and discuss both art forms include many of the same concepts, e.g. colour, tone, texture, rhythm, harmony and contrast can relate to a piece of music as well as to a visual artwork.

In addition, music and visual artworks are both created by selecting and combining a range of common arts elements and principles to create a composition.

Drawing on the artworks of past and present artists who sought to communicate ideas and observations of music and movement, in the workshop, ‘Music, Movement and the Visual Arts’, teachers will explore and discuss:

• the connections between music and art and ways to integrate music and the visual arts
• how visual artists made their images and sculptures i.e. the skills, processes and techniques involved
• ways to borrow ideas, skills and processes and mix them with their own to create artworks depicting movement and music
•  ways to address VELS Arts standards, dimensions and progression points
