Felt Making Made Easy

Workshop Name

Felt Making Made Easy

Levels

2-5

Date

Thursday 9 June 2011

Time

9:20am – 3:00pm

Description

The Science: Felting happens because every strand of wool is covered by tiny scales. The primary mechanism of felting is abrasion. As the individual hairs get rubbed together the scales catch on each other, and the effect is that the whole thing shrinks in an irreversible way to make fabric.

The History: Did you know that it is said that Noah's Ark was lined with fleece and the combination of urine and the trampling animals left behind a felted wool carpet?

The Art: Today artists and teachers are enjoying the exploration of felt making with their students and are creating very exciting artworks.
Teachers wanting to learn a quick, clean and not so wet way to make a piece of wet felt will love this workshop.
