Easter Activities

Easter Basket

Suitable for:

Levels/Age Group: Ages 7-12

Materials:

Cardboard Weaving Base, Markers/pens, Decorative Paper, Ribbon Straw, Satin Ribbon & Raffia

How to make an Easter Basket:

1. Use a Zart pre cut Cardboard Weaving Base.
2. Use markers, pens or Decorative Paper to decorate the internal cardboard base.
3. Form the basic 3D bowl by weaving Ribbon Straw and/or Satin Ribbon between the cardboard spokes, pressing each row firmly down.
4. Over sew the top edge with Ribbon Straw using the pre-cut holes to finish the shape.
5. Fill the basket with shredded paper or Raffia ready for an Easter Chick to nest in.

Activity Extension:

Gather leaves, feathers, little twigs etc. to weave into the ribbon straw rows and create individual decorative nests. Use a Satay Stick to help poke feathers and leaves to the ribbon straw nest.

Create a decorative basket for any occasion such as Mother’s Day, a gift for a friend, or even to make one for yourself to put your treasured possessions in.
Other Weaving activities might include: simple paper weaving with coloured paper, basket weaving with paper or Raffia.

 

Easter Cards

Suitable for:

Levels/Age Group: Ages 5-12

Materials:

Dispersing Paper, Food Dye, Zart Glue Sticks, Cards and Envelopes, Printing Foam, Pencil, Foam Roller, Zart School Colour Paint, Pre-printed Paper, Metallic Papers, Silkee Paper, Beautex Paper, Lace Paper, A4 Pasteboard, Mettex Double-sided Crepe Paper

How to make Easter Cards:

Dispersing Paper Card

1. On a sheet of Dispersing Paper apply Food Dye or inks with a brush or eye-dropper, applying colour on colour or adjacent to one another. The wet colour will blend together to create an amazing result.
2. When the paper is dry cut out an egg shape and glue the coloured paper shape on to a blank card.
3. Write a message inside to card to someone special.

Printed Card

1. Draw a simple pattern on to a piece of Printing Foam with a pencil.
2. Roll paint over the foam and press the wet side down on to a coloured piece of paper or pre-printed paper.
3. When the paper is dry cut out an egg shape and glue the printed paper shape on to a blank card.
4. Write a message inside to card to someone special.

Layered Paper Card

1. Select a number of textured or patterned coloured papers and cut them into strips of varying widths and edges. E.g. straight, wavy or zig zagged edge.
2. Cut an egg shape out of cardboard and glue one of the strips across the bottom of the egg shape.
3. Glue another strip slightly overlapping the first strip and continue up the egg shape until it is completely covered in different paper strips.
4. Turn the card over and trim off any overlapping strips around the egg shape.
5. Glue the coloured paper egg on to a blank card.
6. Write a message inside to card to someone special.

Activity Extension:

Use these techniques to create:
Birthday, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day cards and cut out a shape that would suit the occasion e.g. it might be the shape of a flower for mum, or a car for dad

Easter Chicken

Suitable for:

Levels/Age Group: Ages 5-8

Materials:

Pom Poms 25mm, Pom Poms 12mm, Feathers, Joggle Eyes 5mm, Supertac, Paper Stripping 25mm

How to make Easter Chickens:

1. Cut out a beak, (a small diamond shape folded in half) from Paper Stripping.

2. Cut a small length of Paper Stripping, zig zag both ends and fold it in half to resemble the two feet of a chicken.

3. Glue a small Pom Pom on to a larger Pom Pom and glue on the Paper Stripping feet and beak.

4. Glue on a feather and two Joggle Eyes.


Activity Extension:

Use these techniques to create: Birds, animals, book characters or creatures from outer space, let your imagination go.

 

Cardboard Easter Egg

Suitable for:

Levels/Age Group: Ages 5-8

Materials:

Corrugated Cardboard A4, Scribbles – Shiny Paint, Scribbles – Glitter Paint, Metallic Yarn (optional) & Arbee Craft glue

How to make Cardboard Easter Eggs:

1. Cut out an egg shape from a sheet of Corrugated Cardboard.

2. Use the Scribbles Paint and/or Metallic Yarn to decorate the egg in bright patterns. Set aside to dry.

3. Write a poem about what Easter means to you on the back of the shape.

Activity Extension:

Explore basic stitchery, by using a hole punch to create a border of holes around the edge of the cardboard egg and within the shape. Students may then sew wool around the egg shape and decorate it with simple stitches.

 

Poly Easter Egg

Suitable for:

Levels/Age Group: Ages 7-12

Materials:

Poly Egg 50mm or 70mm, Metallic Paint, Shimmer Paint, Satay Stick, Lill Pins, Metallic Yarn, Sequins in a Jar Diamonds, Arbee Craft Glue, Pearl Pins

How to make Poly Easter Eggs:

1. Push a Satay Stick into a Poly Egg and paint the egg with metallic paint and put aside to dry.

2. Decorate the painted egg with Metallic Yarn and Sequins. Use Lill Pins to pin the Sequins in place around the egg. The Metallic Yarn may be glued into place around the egg and used for a hanger.

Activity Extension:

This activity would make great baubles for Christmas.

 

Rocking Bunnies

Suitable for:

Levels/Age Group: Ages 6-12

Materials:

Poly Egg 70mm or 50mm, Chenille Stems or Bumps, Fishing Sinkers, Paint, Joggle Eyes, Pom Poms

How to make a Rocking Bunny:

  1. Make a small slit into the bottom of a Poly Egg and push a Sinker into the cavity until it cannot be seen.
  2. Paint the Poly Egg with paint and set aside to dry.
  3. Glue on Joggle Eyes, and a Pom Pom nose.
  4. Use Chenille Stems for ears and whiskers by poking the stem into the painted Poly Egg. Try twisting two Chenille Stems together or wind them around a pencil to create a spiral effect.
  5. Glue on a Pom Pom tail or poke a Chenille Stem into the back of the Poly Egg.
  6. Push the Easter Bunny to one side and it should bounce back to being upright.

Use this technique to create:

  • Roly Poly clowns for a circus theme
  • Rocking Zoo Animals
  • Rocking Caricatures of Politicians
  • Rocking self portraits
