Zart Art Portable Art & Classroom Programme

Hints and Tips

Here are some vital points to keep your art programme moving this year...

September Hints: People in Action

Ask a student to stand in front of the class and to pose in an action of their choice. Ask the class to name what the sport is, what the action is, and to discuss the position of the limbs: legs and arms. Turn this into a guessing game with students taking turns to be the model.
Build up a big list of action words, each student adds a word each day.
When taking a rubbing, instruct students to hold the stencil or rubbing plate firmly in place.
Push the Drawing Block away from your body in the one direction to get the best print (rubbing).
Use the edge of the Drawing Block not the flat side when taking a rubbing.
An alternative to Polystyrene blocks for elevating work is a stiff rectangle of cardboard folded into three, one flap is glued to the background and the other flap is glued to the shape you want elevated.
When using dry pastels have paper towelling readily available to clean hands or to help with the smudging of the colour. A small amount of colour from a dry pastel goes a long way so instruct the class not to apply the dry pastels too heavily.
