These exciting clay masks began with students looking at a collection of colourful masks. These provided the students inspiration to design masks of their own.   In the process of designing their masks, students applied the following techniques in their finished work including: textile (threading), colour, relief work and adding on.

That is, students were involved in extensive problem solving and planning processes as they sketched their own designs and worked out where holes should be placed in their clay masks while they were still soft.  Once the masks were Bisque fired, students painted and decorated them with a collection of recycled materials, glass beads, wire and buttons etc.
