The theme of 'Dragonflies' was chosen as part of an Intergrated Studies unit for Level 4 about 'Flight'. We talked about dragonflies, where they are found, and other interesting facts. Two activities were completed
- We looked at drawings and photographs of dragon flies, and made four different sketches; e.g. flying over water, resting on a branch etc.
- Students chose a habitat for the dragonfly, prehistoric, freshwater, desert, tropical or urban environment.
- Printfoam and Chomacryl Paint was used to make prints showing the dragonfly in the chosen environment
- Cardboard frames for the prints were painted using sponges, and decorated with patterns, using metallic mosaic squares.
- Students then chose a similar or different enviroment to complete a background and 3D dragonfly model.
- Backgrounds were completed using watercolours or collage. Cartridge paper was used as a base, with shapes cut from blue, green, yellow and orange cover paper glued on.
- A piece of cool coloured rainbow tissue was glued over the top.
- Dragonflies were modelled using paper magiclay.
- The end of a pencil was used to make hollows for attatching beads.
- \When dry, the models were painted using Chromacryl and Pearl Paints, and decorated with pearls, beads and glitter.
