Faces

How To:

Level 4- Grades 5/6

  • As part of a unit of work looking at faces the children studied the works of Pablo Picasso particulary 'Weeping Woman'.
  • We discussed the distorted and exaggerated features and the use of colour.
  • The children were encouraged to experiment whilst drawing the outline in their visual diaries.
  • When happy with their face they transferred their image onto white cartridge with grey lead.
  • They outlined their face using a black Prockey marker.
  • The children applied paint (Ocaldo block paints) to their artwork within the black lines.
  • When dry the children re-outlined their work in black and added oil pastels highlights.
  • Most children took three one-hour sessions to complete their work.
