How To:
- Students began this unit by looking at pictures of trees and tree trunks. They also went on nature walks around the school and were required to collect bark.
- Students worked on a range of 2D drawings, initially from photocopies so that they could identify the tonal areas, eg. dark/medium/light. They then used three base colours to block these areas in.
- The next stage involved them to apply a range of textural marks, overlaying the opposite colour in each area.
- This work led them to the enlarged 3D tree trunk forms.
- The emphasis for this was to build up the surface texture and to bring the tree forms alive.
- Tissue paper, matchsticks, pipecleaners etc. were used and Chromacryl paint was overlayed.
