Dry Felting

  • Year 7 Painting & Drawing and Textiles
  • Students worked on the theme of the Apocalypse and were motivated and informed about the perils of global warming having seen the documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ by Al Gore.
  • Students did preliminary sketches and then painted directly on to canvas. Some chose to further embellish with glitter paint. They were encouraged to be spontaneous but to also clearly express their concept. They spent about four double periods on the painting stage.
  • Students were then introduced to some simple embroidery stitches – running stitch, chain stitch and couching. Dry felting was added as a technique to add further texture. Finally, they finished off with beading using sequins etc.
  • All students remained fully engaged throughout – this project took eight to ten weeks to complete.
