• The children had already been taught the basics of cartooning last year. 

• Through the use of the Exploring Primary Art 3 text, the children looked at more detailed facial features. 

• The children drew 4 different cartoon pictures and then decided which one they would enlarge and chalk.  We then discussed complimentary colours and tone. 

• The children were shown how to use chalk pastels appropriately to develop tone and interest in their pictures. 

• The teacher demonstrated how the use of black and white chalks at the conclusion of the picture highlighted certain areas.
