Dolls

How To:

Woven Creatures

As part of their intergrated unit on Fabric and Fashion the students began by looking at how threads are woven together to make many different types of fabrics.

  • They threaded up a cardboard loom with kite string then selected a range of different fabrics and patterns to designs and weave a rectangular swatch.
  • Strips of felt with armature wire glued in the middle were cut for the arms and legs.
  • They made pom poms for the heads then added all sorts of 'bits' for added decoration.

Pinocchio Dolls

The Art component for Italian Day was the adventurous task of making 20 large Pinocchio Dolls

  • The whole school was organised into multi-age groups from Prep to Grade 6 in every session.
  • Some were cooking and others playing Bocce, the rest were sewing 'Suffolk Puffs.'
  • Many parents helped with cutting and sewing millions of fabric circles as well as threading a couple of hundred needles.
  • Every child made at least two puffs, using a large running stitch around each circle.
  • Dacron filled stockings were used for the bodies, which were later dressed in shirts and felt jackets.
