Textile Masks

THEME: FAR OUT FAR EAST

Students looked at masks from across Asia, but with a specific focus on Indonesian Masks and Puppets.

AIM:

• Introduce the concept of the 'design brief' and working with constraints and considerations
  
• Build cross-curricular links with LOTE
  
• Extend design ideas by exposing students to stylistic conventions they are not usually familiar with
  
• Introduce the concept of creating original fabric design
  
• Introduce basic embroidery stitches, quilting and sequin/bead techniques
  
• Introduce the sewing machine (cushion component), and basic construction techniques
  

MATERIALS:

• Polyester Satin
  
• Transfer Crayons
  
• Wadding
  
• Embroidery Yarns
  
• Sequins/ Beads/ Buttons
  
• Poly cotton for cushions
