Indonesian Flower Design

How To:

  • Following a short "Visual Dictation" activity on quarter size cartridge paper using fine liners, each student produced an individual flower design based on shapes and lines used in Indonesian art.
  • These designs were then photocopied three times, then re-drawn onto quarter size A4 printfoam and cut out.
  • Prints were made onto black cover paper and cartridge paper, using gold Chomacryl, and also onto squares of fabric using Chromacryl.

Indonesian Collar Designs

  • A3 cover paper was folded in half, cardboard templates were traced to make the collar shape.
  • The 3 photocopied flower designs were coloured in different colour combinations using markers, coloured pencils and metallic pencils.
  • Gold flower design prints on black and white paper were chosen and cut out.
  • The flower designs and prints were arranged to make a balanced design and glued down.
  • Coloured paper, pencils and markers were used to add vines, leaves, flowers, tendrils etc. to complete the design.
  • Triangular shapes cut from metallic ripple paper, and twisted coloured tissue paper were used to make borders around the neck and lower edge of the design. Sequins were also glued on using PVA.
  • A fringe was made from folding and fringing gold coloured crepe paper.

Felt Flower Designs

  • Flower designs drawn onto print foam and cut out, were printed onto fabric squares using Chromacryl.
  • Brightly coloured felt was used to make a flower design that incorporated the prints, making them part of the design, and also used complimentary colours.
  • Sequins and Glitter were used to add extra detail.

Indonesian Flower Drawings

  • These designs were produced from an activity from "The Art of Indonesia" by Kate Hart.
  • Extra line-work was added using gold and silver gel pens.
