Dinosaurs

How To:

Year 5 & 6

  • Armature wire was used for the main support and to form the spine of a dinosaur.
  • A length of crumpled newspaper was wrapped over the wire and secured with masking tape.
  • To add legs, a single length of wire was wrapped over the spine. Crumpled newspaper was wound over the wire to "flesh out" the leg shape. The legs trimmed so that the model would balance and stand.
  • The body shape was padded out using more newspaper so it resembled the shape of a dinosaur.
  • The outer skin of the dinosaur was made by wrapping the entire body of the dinosaur model, beginning with the legs then tail and followed by the body in glue soaked (diluted P.V.A) medium weight calico bandages, overlapping a little.
  • Spikes and horns can be added using the glue soaked calico, if necessary insert a piece of cardboard to strengthen.
  • Paint when dry.
