Our theme for the term was Remake / Remix. It was based on the understanding that our society throws away items that have the potential to be made into artworks. Building on classroom learning, issues related to the environment and sustainability were discussed. Issues of responsibility, past and current mistakes and practises, new science, knowledge and understanding were considered. This installation resulted from the study of environmental artists Rosalie Gascoigne and John Dahlsen. As Gascoigne and Dahlsen roamed the outdoors gathering discarded objects, we roamed the school ground to find what we could. Family Tree contrasts the old ways of the past, with discarded twigs and the new ways of the future with new shiny mirrors which reflect the hope and responsibility of new generations. |
