LEVELS 1 & 2
MASKS
Students in Years 1 & 2 created these Paper-Mache masks as part of the unit, "The Names and Faces of Years 1 & 2".
- In the computer lab, students were shown how to cut n' paste so that they could fill a page with their name repeated over and over again. There were 5 copies printed of this.
- Using PVA and water and plain white strips of paper, the cardboard mask was covered with white paper to cover the colour of cardboard.
- Each child's printed copies were guillotined into strips and students cut their own names into sections.
- These were applied to masks with Paper-Mache PVA mix.
- This session was a design session where each child had a template and drew up their lines.
- This formed discussion on what made effective lines as we all compared one another's ideas.
- Each student had their own template and drew up a master copy and coloured it with textas in each section so that they could get a real idea of what their mask would look like.
- For the next three weeks lines were drawn with a grey lead first and then with permanent black markers.
- Using fine brushes, dyes were painted into each section.
- Year 1's continued lines onto mount board, Year 2's added curling ribbons.

LEVEL 5 & 6
BOTTLE TOP PEOPLE
Students in Years 5 & 6 were given a design brief. They had to create a bottle top person using the following guidelines.
- It could/would be created from all or a combination of beer, white and soft drink tops, and cardboard rings.
- It would need to be constructed using armature wire.
- The bottle top person had to demonstrate pattern.
- Some/all of the bottle tops had to demonstrate the exploration of different cutting techniques.
- Presentation could be on mount board or on a tin.
- Once completed, students titled their piece with consideration to the character they created.

LEVEL 3 & 4
ATHLETE MOBILES
Students in Years 3 & 4 worked though the unit "Athlete Movement". They created these mobiles from wire and tissue paper.
- Anthropods were traced on A2 paper in the form of an athlete. Armature wire was shaped and taped to this outline.
- Working in pairs, limbs were lifted one by one and gently wrapped in masking tape making sure not to alter the bordering outline of the athlete.
- Tissue paper was wrapped around this using a combination of PVA and water. This took 2-3 sessions. The task required about 3-4 layers.
- Fishing wire was attached and students added beads in a pattern with a colour that linked to their athlete.
