How To:
These pieces were the first of a series of works that integrated the topic The Human Body.
Our main focus was to develop an understanding of the elements of the human body , their appearance and composition in terms of shape.
The topic was a great catalyst to the formal teaching of portraiture, self portraiture, figurative art, as well as teaching the proportions of the face.
- Prior to commencement students were exposed to and discussed the notion of a portrait through looking at works from a range of art styles.
- They were then asked to compose a crazy face of someone or something. This allowed for individualized imaginative or realistic interpretation.
- After drawing the face students broke their piece into jig- saw shapes and commenced painting with ocaldo paints.
- Once all pieces were painted, descriptive and decorative line and shape were overpainted in some areas.
- Jig-saw pieces were outlined with fine line pen and then the face was painted back over with black.
- The pieces were completed in three sessions.
