Glorious Papers

How To:

  • The students spent several weeks experimenting and creating interesting sheets of paper.
  • They applied colour using a variety of things - Portfolio pastels, dyes, inks, paints, metallic rubbing blocks and food dyes.
  • The emphasis was on the effect colour has and how it works.
  • The following questions were asked: What effects do different media create? What works best if you want vibrant colour? What blends well? What works best if you want to mix colours? How can texture be added? What happens when resists are added? What effect does adding metallics have?
  • The student worked on different types of paper. They applied colour in a number of ways including: form cuts, rollers, sponges, fingers, and sticks.
  • Finally the students used their sheets of paper to create an artwork. They were able to use commercial papers as well if they enhanced their artworks.
