Greek Urns and Sampans

How To:

The Greek Urns : related to the Olympic theme.

These urns were created by drawing the shape first, then building up layer upon layer of paper mixed with PVA over a number of lessons. After they have dried cut them out and paint a very fine red water base colour over the surface then burnish with a very thin layer of gold paint. Brush over thinly with a soft bristle brush. Mount onto a black background.

Every student will be successful in the look and presentation of this work.

Boats or Sampans

The concept being relayed was the spatial relationships of:  ‘Near and Far’. Every student will be successful in the finished product!

Place only primary colours on the table.

The students roll the paint onto the background, mixing and blending as they go. This frees them from being too particular about lines and placement.

Stencils of boats were prepared and placed over the coloured background. Students rolled a colour over the top and lifted the stencil from the background.
