Weaving

How To:

LEVEL 4

A weaving loom was set up in the corridor and students were invited to work on a knotted rug during recess and lunchtime. The response was overwhelming with students adding to the rug over two terms. Many asked to make their own sample.

  • Students cut 14 slits top and bottom of an A4 pre-cut mount.
  • They wound the warp threads on, to create parallel rows.
  • Students designed their patterns.
  • Knotting the individual threads was completed over 3 weeks. Students ran a weft thread through after each row of knots.
  • They removed their work, mounted it and wrote a short comment.
  • Students were amazed by this technique of rug making and want to try others.
