Greek Villages & Clay Angels

How To:

Clay Angels

  • These figurines were based on wind chimes seen all over the Czech Republic.
  • Students brainstormed how to change a circular slab of clay into a cone, establishing that the larger the wedge cut out, the steeper the cone.
  • They then designed their character, some adding a body, others just a head

LEVEL 4

  • Year Five created a village scene playing with distorted three-dimensional shapes.
  • They began by drawing cubes and rectangular prisms then experimenting with the affect when they pulled one wall out, distorting the shape.
  • The same applied with the three dimensional roofs. Their other focus was the effect of light and shade.
  • The work was on canvas paper using Chromacryl Paint thickened with Impasto Gel Medium. It was applied with palette knives, fingers, brushes etc. PVA was drizzled where extra texture was required.
  • English artist, Catherine Barnes, inspired the work; her work can be viewed on www.catherinebarnes.com
