How To:

Foam Prints

• Students in Grade 3 and 4 created these foam prints.
• After discussing Egyptian symbols and etchings, students engraved their designs into a piece of print foam using a blunt pencil.
• Paint was rolled over the top and then their foam printed onto paper in their choice of colour combinations.

Gemstones

• Students in Grades 3 and 4 created these gemstones by silk painting.
• After drawing four different designs, students decided on one stone and drew it with grey lead on silk.
• Gutta in black, silver or gold was applied over the grey lead.
• The stone was painted with the use of silk dyes.
• Students were very careful with the aplication of silk dyes as too much dye causes bleeding.

Jewels of the Nile

• Students in Grade 3 and 4 created these jewels from air dry clay and beads.
• Using air dry clay, students made a disc shape and etched their design into it.
• Once dry, the disc was painted gold and strung for beading.
• Beads are a combination of scrunched up aluminium foil and an assortment of different plastic beads for jewellery making.

Dot Prints

• Students in Grades 3 and 4 created these dot prints.
• Using the flat end of a pencil, it was a simple but time-consuming process of dipping the pencil into paint and then dotting to form a circular print.
• Students aimed to get an even coverage of dots over their page. The gold print is the foam print as detailed in the foam print activity.
