| How To:
The aim of this unit was to focus on using a basic shape to create a character and also to expose the children to a variety of uses for papier-mache.
- Children looked at a range of characters created using the papier-mache technique
- They then drew a design using their ideas giving particular attention to the size of the character versus the size of the balloon
- After a demonstration of the basic papier-mache technique and blowing up their balloons, they worked on the layering of their balloons over the next four to five weeks
- Children then used a variety of materials including egg cartons, folded paper and plastic tops to add features to their creations
- After a final layer of thin white paper, children painted their creatures and added final details
