| Level 3
Materials:
- Zart printing foam and ink
- Tissue paper
- Crayon and fineliner
How to:
- In an effort to integrate the Year 3/4's art sessions with their experience of the Athens Olympic Games, we looked at and discussed examples of work by artisans in Ancient Greece
- In particular the vase painters and architects, observing how art reflected the lifestyle, culture and values of those times
- Students observed how they used decorative pattern making, repetition, contrast and balance to create their art and tried drawing some of these designs themselves
- Using symmetry, the students drew a vase from observation and transferred their designs onto printmaking foam
- Students printed each vase and discussed the negative-positive effects created when printmaking
- Some classes drew half of their vase and printed the other in order to fully appreciate this principle
- The backgrounds were created using torn tissue paper, rubbed over with crayon and decorated using a design from the student's own vase
