This activity is for students working at levels 2 & 3 of the CSF2
Clowns
- Drawing, decorating, cutting, and pasting skills were used in the year 2/3 clown collage
- Students discussed specific features and images of clowns in general
- Emphasis was placed on distinguishing features and what it was that specifically identified clowns as clowns; large boots/shoes, large bows, baggy suits/trousers, large red nose, gunny hats, exaggerated face paint
- Students then draw their own clown and added particular features
- The starting point for the clowns was a mask made from Zart Paper Mix
- The masks were made beforehand to save time
- They were then glued on the top of a stiff cardboard sheet using a hot glue gun
- The students then used pencil to draw the rest of the features
- Appropriate coloured fabric was chosen by the students to adorn the clown figure
- The fabric was ruffled to give a 3D appearance
- In weekly art sessions of one hour, the whole project was completed in approximately five weeks
This activity is for students in grades 4/5/6 working at levels 3 and 4 of the CSF2
Silver Foil
- Skills included drawing, pasting and decorating
- Students made several sketches of objects that have large shapes
- The final drawing was transposed to a thick cardboard sheet
- The drawings were painted with PVA and thick string was pasted onto the outlines
- The rest of the cardboard was then thinly covered with PVA
- Starting from one end of the board, the aluminium foil was carefully pressed in and around the string outlines
- The final stage was coloured in the silver surface using Prockey markers
- The whole project was completed in about four weeks in weekly one hour art sessions
