The perfect textile project for junior levels

Each hand puppet has been sewn with polyester thread and reinforced at stress point for added strength.

Students are free to decorate their puppet in a variety of ways.

METHOD

Draw a cutting line all around the puppet about 1cm out from the stitching line.

Using sharp scissors and taking care not to cut the stitching, cut along this line.

Very carefully snip the fabric inwards towards the seams on all the bends and corners. (This helps to give the puppet a smooth edge when it is turned right side out.)

Turn the puppet the right way out and work the bends and corners between your fingers until the seam is smooth and flat.

DECORATING

Many different textile techniques and mediums may be used to decorate your puppet and turn it into a character: Fabric Markers and pastels, dyes and fabric paints, pom poms, felt, joggle eyes, wool, feathers, fur etc.

For smaller hands we suggest that you stuff a little acrylic filling into the completed puppets head to give it a little shape and for ease of use.
