Action Figures

Materials:

Cardboard People in Action, Wave Tissue Paper A4, Acetate 0.5 A4 Heavyweight, Global Village Paper, Paper Magiclay, Satay Sticks, Clear Adhesive Tape 18mm, Cardboard Rings and Circles, Skin Tone Craft Papers, Cover Paper A4, Popsticks, Metallic Pattern Paper, Cellophane, Liquitemp Metallic Paint Silver, UHU Glue Stick, Metallic Marker Extra Fine Silver & Supertac

How to Create Action Figures:

1. Choose one of the figures in action from the four templates and decide what sporting event the figure will be competing in.
2. Trace the outline of the head, neck, arms, legs and feet on to Skin Tone Craft Papers. Cut the shapes out and glue them on to the figure.
3. Use the Wave Tissue Paper to dress the athlete in a costume appropriate for the chosen sport. Use the template to trace the shape before cutting it out. Add detail with Global Village Paper or other printed papers.
4. Cut a strip of Acetate approximately 4 x 21 cm and fold it in half to create ‘V’ shape stand. Tape the stand to the back of each leg of the figure with tape and adjust this until the figure is free-standing.
5. Collage on hair and other features to complete your figure.
6. Create a piece of equipment which will indicate what event your figure is competing in. E.g. the javelin was made by covering a Satay Stick with Paper Magiclay and painting it silver; the torch was made from Cover Paper, metallic paper, Cellophane and the markings done with a fine line silver pen.

Dreamer Step: Research
Use the Internet to find out the correct measurements for the track and field events and make one to scale using large sheets of Cover Paper. Mark on the lanes for the track work and various field events such as high jump, shot put, javelin and horizontal jumps. Display the figures in action with their equipment on this scaled down version of the DREAMER Steps® is a strategy for teaching. Please refer to page 16 for more information.
