Horse Collage

Suitable for:

Materials:

Cover Paper, Rubbing Plates, Oil Pastels & Glue Stick by Zart

How to Make a Horse Collage:

  1. Cover a large sheet of Cover Paper with a texture using Oil Pastels and a Rubbing Plate.
  2. Cut out a shape that resembles a horse’s head, two ears and the neck of a horse.
  3. Glue these onto a sheet of Cover Paper.
  4. Use a black Oil Pastel to draw in the facial features and mane.
  5. Create a horse blanket using another colour of Cover Paper covered in a texture using Oil Pastels and a Rubbing Plate.

150th Melbourne Cup - The Race that stops a Nation

  • The greatest 3200 metre handicap horse-race in the world
  • Archer won the first Melbourne Cup 1861
  • While the Cup was first run on a Thursday, the race is always run on the first Tuesday in November and was first run on a Tuesday in 1875
  • Since 1877, Cup Day has been a public holiday for Melbourne, and crowds have flocked to the track.
  • A new grandstand was built at Flemington in 1924
  • Phar Lap is the only horse to have started favourite in three successive Melbourne Cups. He came third in 1929, won the race in 1930 and ran eighth in 1931.
  • In 2005, Makybe Diva made history by being the first horse to win the Melbourne Cup three times, winning consecutive races in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
